WHATS NEW in the North Rift Region

MEETING HOSTED BY
TOURISM REGULATORY AUTHORITY
IN NOBLE CONFERENCE CENTRE, ELDORET on MONDAY 2nd APRIL

The agenda was to review the process and criteria used to classift tourism establishments in Kenya, as carried out in 2015 / 2016 in accordance with EAC policy and guidelines.

Invitees were private sector stakehoders --- some of whom had been involved in the 2015 / 2016 exercise and others who, for various reasons, had not. County representatives were also invited to attend.

Assuming that most of the points raised in our meeting will be taken seriosly by the TRA before the next major classification (Star grading) programme takes place in 4 years time, NRTA would like to say this meeting was useful and successful. A summary report is available.

MEETING HOSTED BY TOURISM FUND
IN BOMA INN, ELDORET on MONDAY 2nd APRIL

Invitees were representatives of hotels, restaurants and other private-sector tourism enterprises, together with representatives of the County Governments of North Rift.

The main agenda was the inauguration of the new Tourism Fund Office in Eldoret (located on 4th floor in KVDA Plaza).

The meeting got off to an inauspicious start, way behind schedule;  ----    exactly how far behind no one knows, as no starting time was indicated in the invitation letter.
This level of disorganisation continued throughout and all participants were relieved to get away after lunch instead of the programmed 4.30 p.m.

This was definitely a political programme ---- as evidenced by its falling flat when the politicians didn't turn up on time !
It had little or no value for the real stakeholders.
NRTA would give this event one out of ten. The "one" only because of meeting useful people over lunch.
